Flood situation further deteriorates in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga

In Bihar flood situation further deteriorated following breaching of two embankments in Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. The ring bandh of Kadane river in Muzaffarpur and the ring bandh of Bagmati river in Kewati block of Darbhanga have been breached.

Several villages of the  two districts  were flooded. Flood water is posing a threat to three Railways sections of East Central Railway  Samastipur – Darbhanga, Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Saharsa-Manasi.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar   made an aerial survey of flood affected areas of the state yesterday.  He also visited relief camps  in Darbhanga,  met flood victims and inquired about relief measures. He instructed concerned authorities to make arrangements for a corona test on  flood victims who are living in relief camps.

About  67  lakh people of 16 districts spread over 1,165 Panchayats are reeling under the impact of flood. The flood situation continues to remain grim in districts of Darbhanga ,Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Sitamarhi,Gopalganj ,East Champaran and Saran districts.  Thirty four people have lost their lives in flood related incidents, mostly due to drowning.  Most of the casualties were from Khagaria and Saharsa districts.

Relief and rescue operations are in full swing. Thirty three teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into service.  About five lakh people have been evacuated so far. In all, 1,379 community kitchens have been set up for providing food to   about ten lakh  flood  affected people.

Bagmati,Burhi Gandak, Kosi, Ganga and Bagmati  rivers are  flowing above the danger mark. The Met Department has forecast heavy  rains in catchment areas of various rivers in north Bihar and Nepal in the next  48 hours
