FlowBlinq Study: New Websites Remain Invisible to AI Without Optimised Sitemaps

FlowBlinq, AI visibility and performance automation company, has released a new study that tested what primarily impacts AI visibility of a brand’s website. The study found that the choice of loading technology had no impact on AI visibility of a website. However, an optimised sitemap improved AI visibility of the new websites significantly.

Why Sitemaps Are Important for New Sites:

When an AI system begins its research for a query, it doesn’t start by reading every website from scratch. It first checks what it already knows. It looks for the running list of sites and pages it has seen before. Following which, it reads a website in full. FlowBlinq’s study found that for brand-new websites, the first check often comes back empty, simply because the site hasn’t been added to that running list yet.

The problem isn’t the website. It’s that the AI doesn’t know how to look yet. An optimised sitemap fixes this issue.

While most modern websites have a sitemap, its accuracy and completeness can make a significant difference to how well AI discovers and understands a brand. The findings suggest that businesses looking to improve their AI visibility should pay closer attention to how well their sitemaps are maintained. Even technically sophisticated websites can lose visibility if their sitemap is incomplete, outdated, or poorly implemented.

Loading Method vs AI Discoverability:

The study also compared three common website loading technologies, namely Static Rendering (SSG), Server Side Rendering (SSR) and Client Side Rendering (CSR). SSG loads slightly faster, which helps brands in industries where every second counts. However, the study found that all three loading methods performed equally well in terms of AI discoverability. The deciding factor was the sitemap, not how the website was built.

For marketing leaders, the study’s findings change where AI visibility budget is needed. Website rebuilds are often pitched as the fix for poor AI discoverability. But they’re expensive and slow. More importantly, they can miss the actual problem. In comparison, sitemap optimization costs a fraction of the time and money, and can be optimised without changing the live site. Furthermore, it directly addresses the step where new sites are actually getting missed.
