Girish Chandra Murmu Taking oath as C&AG

New Delhi:  Girish Chandra Murmu who quit as Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir recently has been appointed the new as Comptroller and Auditor General of India. President Ram Nath Kovind today administered him the oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were also present on the occasion.

Murmu is a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Gujarat cadre and was principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Born on 21 November 1959 in Betnoti village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha in a Santal family Murmu  holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Utkal University. He also holds an MBA degree from University of Birmingham. He is the eldest among eight siblings, six brothers and two sisters. One of his brothers is currently working in a senior position at Reserve Bank of India.
