 GUWAHATI: Incessant rains in Assam for the past few days have created panic in different parts of the state. There is a flood like situation in many districts. Normal life has been affected due to floods. According to reports, the incident took place when the boat carrying nine persons was on its way from Mahmora to Balijan. It is suspected that the boat capsized due to overloading, however, the exact cause is not yet known. While five of them managed to swim, four others unfortunately went missing in the river.

The missing persons have been identified as Shankar Yadav, Dhamen Das, Kishan Yadav and Sunku Kurm. In flood-hit Assam, the Army is carrying out a massive relief operation and more than 18,000 affected people have been rescued so far. A statement said, army personnel are carrying out flood relief operations in Hojai, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Darrang, Tamulpur and Kamrup in Assam. The Army has deployed 11 composite columns at various locations in Assam for flood relief operations. “Heavy rains continue to lash various parts of Assam and the rivers flowing above the danger mark are causing flooding and waterlogging in rural and urban areas.

The Army is working to help the flood affected people. Eight people, including four children, were reported dead on Sunday due to floods and landslides. With this, the death toll has reached about 75. Eight people are said to be missing. More than 50 lakh people in 18 districts of the state have been affected by the floods. Due to floods, brahmaputra and other rivers of the state are flowing above the danger target. The water from the rivers has entered more than 4,000 villages. A boat carrying flood affected people capsized in Hojai district. Three children went missing in the incident. Another 21 were rescued.
