Bhopal: Good Friday is the day of the passion and death of Jesus and one of the holiest days of the year. The Christians and the Catholics attended Good Friday Service with gratitude and joy at the overwhelming proof of Christ’ love for them on 15 April 2022. Good Friday reminds all the unconditional love of Christ Jesus facing Passion and death on the cross.
Archbishop A.A.S. Durairaj SVD attending the service at Assumption Church, Arera Colony, Bhopal, explained to people the suffering and death of Jesus under three headings- The importance of the Cross in the life of Jesus, the wonder of the Cross and the power of the Cross.
The death of Jesus on the cross was not an accident or a misfortune but it is the very purpose for which Jesus came into this world. All the people are born to live in this world, but Jesus came into this world to die upon the Cross. The whole life of Jesus was a deliberate, conscious and steady March towards the Cross he said. Hanging on the Cross, disowned and deserted by His friends, mocked by the foes, Jesus died a very lonely and excruciating death. It’s because of His love for humanity. This is the wonder of His glorious love he said.
After the way of the Cross at St. Josephs’ co-ed school ground Archbishop A.A.S. Durairaj SVD along with many priests participated in the service of the Good Friday at Assumption Church, Arera Colony Bhopal. Veneration of the Cross and communion service and passion narratives were conducted as an important part of Good Friday service.
The PRO of Bhopal Archdiocese Fr. Maria Stephen said “The Cross has the power not only to forgive our sins but it has also the power to make us whole; When we’re weak, it has the power to strengthen us; When we’re tossed hither and thither with pain and meaningless in life, it has the power to anchor our lives he said. Good Friday is one of the holiest days for the entire Christians. Therefore the Christians witnessed huge crowds from other religions to witness the service.
There were three main parts in the liturgy of Good Friday, he added: Word of God and Proclamation, Praying for the Church, Country and Leaders, Veneration of the Cross and Communion Service. Red is the color of Good Friday, the blood of the martyrs, he said. The entire service was held in the midst of scotching the Sun to exercise the true faith in Jesus Christ.
