Government Assures Uninterrupted Domestic LPG Supply Across Country Amid West Asia Situation

Government today assured that domestic LPG supplies are continuing smoothly across the country without any disruption amid the evolving West Asia situation. Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma said that no dry-out has been reported in the country at LPG distributorships. She added that online LPG bookings and delivery authentication code based domestic LPG supplies are also at an all-time high.

Ms Sharma noted that commercial LPG supplies across the country have been restored up to 70 percent and in the month of April, more than 1 lakh 84 thousand tonnes of commercial LPG have been sold. She said that as of yesterday, over 8 thousand 838 tonnes of commercial LPG were sold. The Secretary further noted that supplies of 5 kg cylinders have nearly doubled with around 73 thousand sold yesterday.

Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mukesh Mangal informed that operations at all Indian ports are normal and no reports of congestion has been reported. He added that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe, and no incident involving any Indian-flagged vessel has been reported in the past 24 hours. Mr Mangal underlined that through the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) control, the Ministry has facilitated the safe return of 2 thousand 829 Indian nationals.

He further said that Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal recently held a review meeting with officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Department of Fertilizers, and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade regarding issues related to the Strait of Hormuz. He added that the Minister also reviewed measures to ensure that import and export activities through maritime operations and shipping continue to function smoothly.
