Governor visits erosion hit area, relief camps in Chirang

Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi calls for a permanent solution to the flood and erosion in Lower Assam.Mukhi on Friday visited erosion hit Thulsijhara area near Hagrama bridge in Lower Assam Chirang district and took stock of preventive measures being taken up by the water resources department at the site. Mukhi said he would take up the matter with central government for sanctioning amount by strongly recommending for permanent solution to flood and erosion problems.
After physically inspecting the entire erosion hit site where sizable portion of land has already succumbed to erosion, the governor talked with the BTC Principal Secretary Siddhartha Singh, Chirang Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar and top officials of water resources department present at site about the emergency measures adopted for preventing further erosion. As such, informing the governor about the protective steps, the deputy commissioner and water resources officials stated that they have accorded top priority to contain the erosion and engaged workforce as per requirement. The governor directed them to carry out stabilization work on a war footing.
The governor also visited relief camps set up at Malipara ME school and Dongapeta LP school under Bijni revenue circle and interacted with camp inmates to know whether they were being provided adequate food, other relief materials including drinking water and medical facilities regularly by the local administration.
While talking to media persons, expressing his satisfaction over the distribution of relief materials among the relief camp inmates, the governor said, ‘I am quite satisfied with the relief distribution process of the local administration as the inmates in the relief camps have said they are having enough food items, drinking water facilities including medical facilities’.  He further said that he had decided to work for those people who usually lose their lands every year due to erosion caused by flood waters for granting adequate compensations against their lost of lands as they do not get any compensation in such case as per existing government norms.
Principal Secretary, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Siddharth Singh, IGP, BTAD Anurag Agarwal, Chirang Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar, Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh, other senior officials of district administration and district heads of various departments were present at the time of his visit.
