New Delhi: Eighth round of talks with the representatives of farmers’ unions and the Government is underway in the National Capital. Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal who are representing the Government met Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the day, before meeting the farmers.
In the earlier meeting on 4th of this month, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had said that the government wanted farmer unions to discuss the three farm laws clause-wise, but they could not find any solution as farmer unions remained adamant on the repeal of these three laws.
The Government has repeatedly assured the farmers’ leaders that it is committed to address their issues and both sides need to take steps forward to arrive at an amicable solution. Mr Tomar had reiterated that Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the Mandi system will continue like before.
Speaking to media before attending the meet, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar expressed hope that the talks will be held in a positive atmosphere and a solution will be found. He said, during discussions, each side has to take steps to reach a solution.
