Ahmedabad: Gujarat Science City, functioning under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, is celebrating World Space Week 2026 today, under the theme “Rocket Revolution.” The event aims to inspire scientific curiosity among students and young minds, promote awareness about space science and technology, and provide an engaging platform to explore the fascinating world of space research and innovation. Approximately 1,000 to 1,200 students are expected to visit Gujarat Science City during the celebration and enthusiastically engage in various scientific and educational activities.
The celebration features a series of interactive, educational and hands-on activities designed to make space science accessible, engaging and enjoyable. A Hands-on Workshop on Model Rocketry introduces students to the fundamentals of rocket design, working mechanisms and the scientific principles behind rocket propulsion. This is followed by a special Space Talk on “Rocket Revolution,” highlighting advancements in rocket technology, space exploration and the evolving possibilities of space research.
Another key attraction is the “Make and Take: Telescope DIY Paper Kit” activity, offering students an opportunity to assemble their own telescope models while understanding basic concepts of astronomy and scientific observation. An interactive “Scientist Circle” session on “Role of Space Technology in Human Life” is also being organised, focusing on the importance and practical applications of space technology in everyday life, including satellite communication, weather forecasting, navigation and other technological advancements.
The celebration will conclude with a special Night Sky Observation session, providing participants with an opportunity to observe the night sky and explore the fascinating wonders of the celestial world. This activity aims to spark curiosity about astronomy and encourage students to develop a deeper interest in space science and exploration.
With approximately 1,000 to 1,200 students expected to visit during the celebration, Gujarat Science City aims to create a vibrant environment of scientific exploration and discovery. Students have opportunities to explore various galleries, participate in interactive activities and engage wholeheartedly with science and technology. Beyond conventional classroom learning, the celebration seeks to encourage young minds to ask questions, experiment, discover and develop a scientific outlook through practical experiences.
Through this initiative, Gujarat Science City continues to strengthen its mission of “Connecting Community with Science” by making scientific knowledge more accessible, interactive and experience based.
