Half of Summer Travelers Are Millennial, 84% Opt for Adventure Sports Cover, Early Travel Insurance Bookings See 100%+ Growth

Top Global Summer 2025 Destinations: The United States leads international destinations with 5.23% of total vacation bookings, closely followed by France 4.63%, Singapore 4.61% and Switzerland 4.53% offering scenic landscapes, unique experiences, and vibrant culture. Thailand remains a perennial favourite, capturing 3.69% of travel bookings.
2. Millennials Lead Summer Travel in 2025, followed by Gen X and Gen Z: Millennials are driving travel this summer, accounting for 51.12% among all travellers—the highest among all generations. Gen X (19.31%) and Gen Z (18.39%), both showing strong travel intent, followed by millennials. While Baby Boomers, maintaining a steady presence at 11.15%, likely due to ongoing health issues and mobility considerations.
3. Asia vs. Europe: While the USA tops global destinations, among usual favourites, Asia & Europe – Asia takes the lead. Summer Travel Favours Asia with 36.57% of travel bookings. Europe follows closely with 31.77%, maintaining a strong position among Indian travellers.
4. Sharp Rise: Early Travel Insurance Bookings Up 100.3%: There is a humongous shift in travellers’ behaviour when it comes to securing insurance. In 2024, only 24% of Indian travellers booked their travel insurance in advance. By 2025, this figure jumped to 76%, marking a remarkable 100.3% surge. This growing trend highlights a rising awareness of travel risks and a stronger emphasis on preparedness and financial protection among Indian travellers.
Why early travel insurance purchases are increasing:
· Visa requirement: Majority of international destinations mandate a valid travel insurance policy as part of the visa application process.
· Risk awareness: Greater awareness of travel uncertainties (flight delays, cancellations, medical emergencies).
5. Family Travel Bookings Up 6%, but Awareness of Pediatric Insurance Coverage Remains Low: Family bookings grew by 6%, driven by a trend of families opting for leisure trips during school holidays. Many plans offer limited protection for children, particularly when it comes to pre-existing conditions and congenital issues. It is essential for families to carefully review policy details to ensure their travel insurance adequately covers paediatric needs before making a purchase.
6. Adventure sports add-on gains popularity: Out of all travellers opting for add-ons, 84% travellers opt for adventure sports rider while buying their travel insurance policies. This reflects the growing demand for more active and adventurous travel experiences. While 9% opt for Visa Fee Refund rider to mitigate the financial risk associated with visa rejections and 6% opt for other riders like PED covers, etc.
7. 62% of travellers choose $250,000+ travel insurance coverage: 62% of travellers now opt for coverage of $250,000 since FY 24 or more, reflecting a shift from the previously standard $100,000+ coverage for international destinations.
8. Solo and Group Travel Surge in 2025; Average Trip Duration Hits 17–18 Days: There has been a clear increase in travel activity, with solo bookings climbing by 9.6% and group travel rising by 9.3% in April 2025, reflecting a growing preference for independent and shared travel experiences. In addition, the average travel duration across all segments ranged from 17 to 18 days.
