The ghat regions have received intense rainfall, with Lonavala recording more than 600 mm of rain. Vehicular traffic has been diverted from landslide-prone stretches in the ghat areas, and several tourist destinations have been closed as a precaution.
In Nashik district, authorities have issued a maximum alert following forecasts of cloudburst-like rainfall. In view of the weather conditions, schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the sensitive ghat areas of Nashik, Satara and Pune will remain closed today.
Several coastal districts, including Mumbai, received 100 to 200 mm of rainfall yesterday, disrupting normal life. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been partially reopened after traffic was disrupted yesterday due to a landslide. Authorities have advised people to venture outdoors only if absolutely necessary.
