Honouring the Timeless Legacy of Uttam Kumar at the Heritage Academy Film Festival

The two-day Heritage Academy Film Festival 2026, organised by the Department of Media Science at The Heritage Academy, concluded successfully on 13 May 2026 after bringing together cinema enthusiasts, students, academicians, filmmakers, and creative professionals for an engaging celebration of storytelling, filmmaking, fashion, and cinematic excellence.

The festival commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by eminent author and journalist Sankarlal Bhattacharjee along with other dignitaries. The inaugural session featured welcome addresses by Prof. Dr. Gour Banerjee, Principal, The Heritage Academy; Prof. Dr. Basab Choudhury, Principal, The Heritage Institute of Technology and Senior Director, Kalyan Bharti Trust; and Prof. Dr. Madhupa Bakshi, Dean, Department of Media Science, The Heritage Academy.

A major highlight of Day 1 was an insightful session on “100 Years of Uttam Kumar” delivered by Sankarlal Bhattacharjee, moderated by student representative Suchetana Banerjee. The day also witnessed a series of competitive events including the “Nayak” Film Reel Making Competition, “Samadhan” Film Quiz, and “Chhadmabeshi” Fiction Film Making Competition, which showcased the creative brilliance and cinematic understanding of participating students.

Day 2 continued the momentum with competitions such as the “Sei Chokh” Non-Fiction Film Making Competition and “Uttam Kalam” Script Writing Competition. The much-anticipated fashion show competition, “Jatra Holo Shuru,” added glamour and artistic vibrancy to the festival.

One of the most memorable moments of the festival was the interactive session featuring renowned actor Moon Moon Sen and celebrated actor, dancer, choreographer, and social reformer Alokananda Roy. Moderated by Mrs. Masum Sengupta, the session inspired students with valuable insights into cinema, creativity, discipline, and social impact through art.

The festival concluded with an award distribution ceremony graced by Alokananda Roy and Moon Moon Sen, recognising outstanding performances across various competitions.

The Heritage Academy Film Festival 2026 successfully created a vibrant platform for aspiring media professionals and artists to explore creativity, innovation, and cinematic expression, further strengthening The Heritage Academy’s commitment to nurturing talent and holistic learning experiences.
