Kokrajhar, Aug 16: Huge quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from two different locations in Assam Kokrajhar district by police Sunday evening.
The recovery includes one MMG, 5 AK 56 rifles, 4 magazines of AK56, 244 rounds ammunition of AK-56,one INSAS rifle along with magazine and 23 rounds ammunition, three 9 mm pistol, 5 magazine of 9 mm pistols, 6 rounds ammunition of 9 mm pistol, One .22 Chinese gun, two magazine and 5 rounds ammunition, one No. 36 hand grenade and One MMG chain.
Briefing Reporters in Kokrajhar,Kokrajhar Superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan said based on input regarding presence of illegal arms and ammunition, Kokrajhar police carried out search operations at two places of Katlibil jungle area under Saraibil Border outpost under Gossaigaon Police Station and Belguri jungle area under Serfanguri Police Station and recovered cache of arms and ammunition this afternoon.
No arrest has been made in this regard till the filing of this report.
This is the fourth such recovery in Kokrajhar district in the last one month and three days after recoveries of huge cache of arms and ammunition from Udalguri. On Thursday (13 August) last including two AK-47 rifles, five AK-56 rifles, two M-16 rifles, seven 9mm pistols, 12 grenades, over 1250 rounds of ammunition, 1 air gun and around 20 kilogram of explosives.
Police have recovered a series of arms and ammunition from different parts of the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri in the last few weeks.
On July 25 last one factory made 7.65 mm Pistol with one magazine and one live bullet were recovered from Tipkai area under Bogribari police station in Parbhatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar district. Two persons were arrested in this connection. Before that on July 17, One AK series rifle, Two AK series magazines, One polythene sheet used for wrapping and covering the rifle and magazine to which lubricant was applied and Thirty (30) number of AK series ammunitions in a plastic container half filled with rice husk from Duligaon area under Tipkai police outpost in Parbhatjhora subdivision in the district.
Likewise, one factory made (HK series) rifle along with one magazine and 10 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from Mwinaguri No. 4 village under Bijni Police station on July 18. Similarly, 1 HK-33 Rifle,1 M-16 Rifle, 1 AK-47 Rifle and ammunition in a search operation, near the Laxmi river at Ghagra No-2 village under Harisinga Police Station in Udalguri. Moreover, two (2) AK Rifles, two (2) 9 mm Pistols and ammunition were recovered from Goreswar Police Station, one (1) AK 47 and 36 live ammunition were also recovered from Simla Police station in Baksa district in July last.
