I am not here for any politics, but to share the pain and sorrow of the people: Rahul Gandhi after meeting riot victims in Manipur

Imphal (Manipur): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that he was left heartbroken when met the riot victims in Manipur. Mr Gandhi arrived here on Thursday for a two -day visit to the trouble torn state and visited some of the worst affected victims in their refugee camps.

Huge number of women were seen on both sides of the road through which Mr. Gandhi drove to different refuge camps and the people were seen cheering the congress leader with slogans “Rahul Gadhi Zindabad. We want peace.” In fact, Mr Gandhi was the lone political leader to visit the troubled victims in their camps.

While talking to the media after meeting the refugees, Mr Gandhi told the media that he had come to the state not to make any political statement. “I came here because I wanted to share the pain of the people of Manipur. It is a horrible tragedy that has taken place. It is extremely sad and painful for all the people of Manipur and all the people of India as well.”

Further he said “I went to the camps, met people from all communities. One of the things I would say to the government is that the basic amenities in the camps need to be improved. Food needs to be improved. Medicines need to be supplied.

He appealed to everybody in Manipur that “we need peace. Peace is the most important thing. My strong appeal to everyone is that violence will not get anything for anybody.Peace is the way forward and everybody should now talk about peace and start moving towards it. I am here; will help in any way I can to bring peace to the state. I love all the people of Manipur.

Later in a tweet the Congress leader said  “It’s heartbreaking to see and listen to the plight of those who have lost loved ones and homes due to the violence in Manipur. There is a cry for help in the face of every brother, sister and child I meet.”

Rahul Gandhi further added, “The most important thing Manipur needs now is Peace – to secure the lives and livelihoods of our people. All our efforts must unite towards that goal.”
