India, South Korea leaders reviewed overall progress in India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership: MEA

India and South Korea have emphasised enhancing economic cooperation during the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting President of South Korea, Lee Jae Myung. Briefing the media after the bilateral talks in New Delhi, Secretary East in the Ministry of External Affairs, P Kumaran, said that the two leaders reviewed the overall progress in the India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership. He said that both the leaders discussed avenues to further expand cooperation in trade, financial services, shipbuilding, AI, energy, semiconductors, critical and emerging technologies, defence and security, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Mr Kumaran said that the leaders also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest. He said that President Lee also planted a sapling under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, a reflection of our shared focus on sustainability.

Mr Kumaran said that India and South Korea are strengthening maritime cooperation. He said an MoU has been signed with a Korean shipbuilding firm to upgrade shipyards, boost skills, and develop port infrastructure. Talking about defence cooperation, He said that the government is looking forward to collaborating in terms of procurement of more kinds of defence hardware, telecom equipment and cybersecurity with South Korea. Talking about global uncertainty, the MEA Secretary said that both nations agreed that we should cooperate to try to strengthen peace and security and strengthen multilateral institutions.
