Indian Railways continue to maintain high momentum in terms of earnings

New Delhi: Freight figures of Indian Railways continue to maintain high momentum in terms of earnings and loading in the month of October 2020. On mission mode, Indian Railways’ Freight loading last month crossed last year’s loading and earnings for the same period. In October 2020, Indian Railways loading was 108.16 million tonnes which is 15 per cent higher compared to last year’s loading for the same period which was 93.75 million tonnes. In this period Indian Railways earned over 10 thousand 4 hundred 5 Crore rupees from freight loading which is also 9 per cent higher compared to last year’s earnings for the same period.

Last month, Indian Railways’ loading was over 108 million tonnes which includes nearly 47 million tonnes of coal, over 14 million tonnes of iron ore, over 5 million tonnes of foodgrains, nearly 6 million tonnes of fertilizers and over 6 million tonnes of cement excluding clinker.

To attract new business and incentivise other existing clients, the Ministry of Railways has held meetings with top leadership of iron and steel, cement, power, coal, automobiles and logistics service providers.
