HyderabadIndian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in association with Recykal has launched an initiative ‘ReFuel with Recykal’ to make communities sustainable in Hyderabad. The movement encourages residents to join hands in creating a greener and healthier environment by recycling their waste. The program allows individuals to scan a QR code to register, weigh their waste, and earn credits that can be redeemed for fuel at designated fuel stations. The pilot of this initiative will be run till August 2023 in 5 company operated fuel stations in Hyderabad and then this activity will be scaled up to pan India covering all 34,000+ fuel stations of IOCL.

The scheme ‘ReFuel with Recykal’ is presently available at following 5 IOCL fuel stations in Hyderabad:

1.       COCO, Hitech City (Opp to Lemon Tree)

2.       TSIIC, Knowledge City — Nbear IKEA

3.       COCO, Jubilee Hills — Road No.36

4.       Cyber Filling Station, Near Miyapur

5.       COCO, Begumpet, Prakash Nagar, Begumpet Road

People can give plastic waste, paper, cardboard, mobiles, laptops, network equipment, cables, and other materials to designated Indian Oil fuel stations and receive credits in return. These credits can then be used to pay for fuel at select fuel stations. Each credit earned is equivalent to 1 milliliter of fuel, and individuals who contribute more than 10 kilograms of waste are eligible for additional fuel exclusively. This not only incentivizes people to participate but also motivates them to collect and bring more waste to earn extra credits. The initiative provides a win-win situation for everyone involved. Individuals can dispose of their waste responsibly while also enjoying free fuel, and the community benefits from a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

B Anil Kumar, Executive Director & State Head of IndianOil’s Telangana & Andhra Pradesh State Office (TAPSO), “We are excited for this initiative- ‘Refuel with Recykal’ as it aligns perfectly with Indian Oil’s commitment to sustainability. By participating in this movement, individuals will contribute to waste reduction and also support the development of a circular economy. The program encourages the responsible disposal of waste and promotes recycling and reusing materials. Under this initiative, waste is seen not as  a burden but as a valuable resource that can be converted into fuel.”

Abhay Deshpande, Founder and CEO of Recykal said, “The objective of this initiative goes beyond just curbing waste pollution. This collaboration is not only aimed at preventing waste from entering the environment but also at creating social entrepreneurship and more green jobs for women and specially-abled people. The project has the potential to collect 2.6 million tonnes of uncontaminated dry waste annually directly from the source creating a minimum of 16000 direct and 64000 indirect green jobs at the same time. We are proud to have contributed our expertise in smart technology and infrastructure to this project, and we extend our congratulations to IOCL for taking it forward. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the environment and on the lives of individuals and communities across the country.”
