GUWAHATI : The ropeway on the Brahmaputra river connecting Guwahati and northern Guwahati in Assam has been inaugurated today. It is the longest ropeway on the river in the country. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Guwahati Development Department Minister Siddharth Bhattacharya inaugurated a decimal eight kilometer long ropeway service. This ropeway is from Kachhri Ghat in Guwahati to Dol Govinda Temple in northern Guwahati.The ropeway is built in state-of-the-art technology adhering to all safety standards. With the introduction of ropeway service, the travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati will be reduced and the tourism sector of Assam will also get a boost. Due to the Kovid-19 health guidelines, only 15 passengers are allowed to travel at once. Through ropeway service, you will be able to see the beautiful Guwahati city, the vast Brahmaputra and the Umananda temple located in Picock Island.For both sides, the fare will be Rs 100. The start of the ropeway service will be like the fulfillment of a dream for the people of the area. It took a long time of about 11 years to complete. The ropeway will run from 8 am to 6 pm. Around 58 CCTV cameras have also been installed to monitor ropeway service. It has taken nearly 56 crores to make it. Work on this project was started by Guwahati Metropolitan Development in 2006.However, a large part of the work was finally completed in 2019.
IIT, Guwahati is also located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra. Umananda’s bird eye views will be seen from this carrying vehicle. Kamakhya Temple’s home will be the center of attraction in many other places including Nilanchal Hill and Saraighat Bridge.The ropeway is built in accordance with the state of art technology, adhering to relevant Indian and international standards. The ropeway is a convenient and non-polluting means of transport, as well as a source of environmentally friendly tourism. It is ecologically sustainable because it protects the beauty of the area by electric power and at the same time provides passengers with a comfortable and quick means of transportation.
