International Women‘s Day celebrated in Jorhat

Jorhat : International Women’s day was celebrated at Assam Agricultural University, Assam Women University and Jorhat Engineering College while at AAU Ms Puballi Dutta Bujabaruah, social activist cum advocate of Shillong Bench of Gauhati High Court attended as the chief guest. During her address she questioned that this day was celebrated since 1977 but still why women had to cry for equality, why for men is not crying for their equality, as for right men enjoy every rights and women has has to cry for every small matter. We are the victims of discrimination and we should think where the problem is and how to get over it. We find the struggle of women not for one feminist as it is no one organization to struggle, it should be a collective effort, said social activist Pubali Dutta.

Moreover more than 200 million girls and women alive today have been subjected  to add Female Genital Mutilation in 30 countries in the world which is one of the most cry and inhuman rooted form of discrimination, even in some countries like South Africa, but ironically UN has declared that by 2030, the world should be 50/50 and all will be possible when we dream equal status, equality only when we are equipped, empowered and know about how to rise, act and enjoy those right so that nobody can take for granted and this illegality and or discrimination to women, said Pubali Dutta Bujarbaruah.

Earlier Dr. KM Bujarbaruah, the Vice Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University and Dr. Jayanta Deka, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture spoke about the role of women and their importance and presence in every one’s life and family on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The International Women’s Day which was celebrated with great pomp and gaiety at the Assam women University premises , as earlier in the morning a colourful procession following various theme by students from  various department took outr a procession which proved the capacity of women in today’s world , their involvement, achievement in three forces including cultural, academic, media and social. The procession was flagged off by Dr. Lakhi hazarika, Officer on Special Duty while Dr. KM Bujarbaruah who attended as the chief guest on the occasion spoke about the achievement of women in India who had grabbed the top post in several Central government or Public Sector enterprises like ICICI, UBI and many others, stating that women are no less
