The Jaipur Literature Festival will celebrate its landmark 20th edition in January 2027, reflecting on two decades of transforming India’s engagement with books, ideas, and cross‑cultural conversations through an open, accessible platform.
Since its 2008 inception, the Festival has evolved from a regional gathering into a globally recognised literary institution, hosting over 8,000 writers, speakers, and artists, welcoming over 5 million on‑ground visitors, and reaching an estimated 1 billion+ audiences digitally and via broadcasts.
A Platform That Redefined Access
At a time when literary dialogue was often confined to established circles, Jaipur Literature Festival pioneered a participatory culture, bringing together voices across generations, languages, disciplines, and geographies. Its enduring impact lies in expanding literary engagement beyond academia and publishing—making ideas accessible to wider audiences.
From Jaipur to the World
The Festival’s influence has extended internationally, with editions in more than 15 countries, and over 300 festivals worldwide inspired by its model of open literary exchange. It has served as a cultural bridge, connecting India’s rich narratives with global conversations while highlighting the region’s heritage.
A cornerstone of its growth has been the sustained partnership with the Government of Rajasthan, whose support since the Festival’s founding has provided it with a distinctive cultural home and enabled its expansion from a local gathering into a worldwide platform.

The Festival’s commitment to multilingual storytelling has amplified voices across Indian and international languages, strengthened translation cultures, and created pathways for regional traditions to reach wider audiences—reflected in the simultaneous release of its 20th‑announcement in all 22 official languages of India.
Programming consistently bridges literature, history, politics, science, economics, gender studies, health, migration, and the environment, grounded in the belief that knowledge is interconnected.

Supported by the Government of Rajasthan, the 20th edition will take place in Jaipur from January 14–18, 2027, anchored by the theme “20 Years of Ideas. Stories. Conversations.” As it enters its third decade, the Festival continues its defining legacy—making literature more participatory and relevant for audiences across generations, languages, and geographies, while creating spaces where diverse voices meet, conversations evolve, and ideas inspire change.
