Mangaldai : Jitendra Singh, AICC, General Secretary and party’s state observer along with other senior leaders of the party including its State president Ripun Bora, MP Gaurav Gogoi, former minister Rockybul Hussain have been arrested by Darrang Police on charges of violation of section 144 of CrPC after participating in party’s scheduled Kishan Tractor Rally in Mangaldai on Saturday. The senior Congress leaders and their supporters marched forward towards DC office from Rajiv Bhawan campus at ward no 2 and tried to overcome the bamboo barricades placed by police near Ram Janaki temple chariali police on the NH 15 at around 2 pm. The arrested Congress leaders were taken in custody and carried in buses. Earlier the leaders addressed party workers at Rajiv Bhawan and severely criticized the BJP led government both at the State and Centre charging them as anti farmers and pro corporate. It may be mentioned here that Darrang district administration in an order issued on Friday had rejected the application of Darrang Congress Committee for permission to hold a Kishan Tractor Rally citing section 144 of CrPC prohibiting assemble five or more persons in public places which was already in practice. Till filing of the report the arrested Congress leaders were not released.
