K J Somaiya Institute of Management Launches New Executive MBA in Leadership & Transformation

Mumbai : Many managers reach a point where the expertise that earned them earlier promotions is no longer sufficient for the demands of the next role. Preparing for broader leadership responsibilities requires a different set of capabilities: enterprise-wide thinking, sound strategic judgement, the ability to influence across boundaries and the confidence to lead change. At the same time, for organisations, developing the next generation of leaders is an important investment in succession planning and long-term business continuity.

The Executive MBA in Leadership & Transformation gives organisations a way to meet that need, strengthening their leadership pipeline while equipping promising talent to navigate strategic complexity, digital disruption and emerging business challenges. For participants, it supports the shift from functional expertise to enterprise leadership.

The Executive MBA programme is for experienced managers who lead teams, functions or business units and who have the potential and the desire to take on greater responsibility within their organisations.

Dr. Ramachandran Raman, Director & Dean, K J Somaiya Institute of Management, said, “This programme is more than an advanced management qualification. It is a carefully designed leadership journey that combines academic rigour with practical application, personal reflection and organisational relevance. Our objective is not simply to help participants become better managers, but to prepare them to become enterprise leaders capable of creating lasting value for their organisations and society.”

An integrated approach to enterprise leadership

The curriculum follows five themes: Understanding the Enterprise, Managing the Enterprise, Leading the Enterprise, Transforming the Enterprise and Renewing the Enterprise. Across these themes, participants engage with strategy, finance, organisation dynamics, customer behaviour, enterprise risk, digital transformation, data and decision intelligence, and innovation. AI runs through all five themes, enabling participants to understand its implications for business strategy, organisational processes and decision-making.

Participants learn through live business cases, executive simulations, boardroom discussions and masterclasses with industry experts. They bring challenges from their own workplaces into classroom discussions and apply their learning back at work, with faculty feedback and structured reflection supporting the process.

Executive coaching is a distinctive feature of the  Executive MBA programme, offering a personalised leadership development experience that is not commonly found in Executive MBA programmes. Participants work with the same coach and coaching group throughout the 15 months, allowing them to reflect on their leadership approach and work through professional challenges over time.

Entry and exit leadership assessments give them reference points for reflecting on progress.

Participants can undertake a Transformation Mandate: a live change initiative within their organisation, scoped with an organisational sponsor and reviewed by faculty. For sponsoring organisations, it can link leadership development and succession planning to an initiative already on the business agenda.
