Kokrajhar: The Kamatapur Progressive Party (KPP) has decided to back the United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) in the ensuing BTC election.
In a joint press meet at Kokrajhar Press Club today, Kamatapur Progressive Party president Pradip Kumar Ray said the party has decided to extended support to UPPL on certain conditions such as nominate a MCLA from Koch Rajbonshi community, form Koch Rajbongshi Development Board, and work for all round development of Koch Rajbongsis after coming to power in BTC. Ray said the UPPL leadership has conceded to the demands, following which the Kamatapur Progressive Party has decided to extend full support to the UPPL and end 17 years of corrupt regime of BPF.
Speaking on behalf of the UPPL, Pratibha Brahma, Vice President of UPPL said, the Koch Rajbongshi is one of the most neglected and deprived communities in BTR region and assured to work for all round development of thecommunity if voted to power. She said the UPPL is committed to fulfil the promises to work for corruption free administration and equal all round development of the people irrespective of caste, creed and community.
The leadership of both the political parties exuded full confidence of winning the BTC election with full majority.
Mention be made that the BTC election, scheduled for April 4, was postponed indefinitely owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. The Hon’ble governor has taken over the charge of the BTC after the tenure of the Hagrama Mohilary led Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) ended on April 27 last.
Chinmoy Dey, chairman of, central election steering committee of UPPL said, the 17 years of misrule and corruption has acted as strong anti-incumbency factor for BPF. Moreover, the historic BTR accord has acted in UPPL’s favour, thus, without any doubt we will be winning more than 30 seats whenever the election is held, he added.
