Kazam perspective on Unified Bharat e-Charge initiative, single interface for EV users

Quote to be attributed to Akshay Shekhar, CEO and Co-founder, Kazam:

“Every transformative infrastructure shift in India has followed the same pattern: a fragmented market, a unifying standard, and then explosive adoption. UPI did it for payments. ONDC is doing it for commerce. Unified Bharat e-Charge will do it for EV charging.

Kazam operates at the infrastructure layer of the EV charging ecosystem, enabling both EV drivers on the demand side and CPOs on the supply side to seamlessly participate in the Unified Battery Charging (UBC) network. We build and run UBC-compliant platforms that allow charging operators to join the national network without rebuilding their digital stack. This includes charger integration through open protocols, real-time telemetry, tariff exchange, session control, UPI-linked billing, and automated settlement. As a founding member of the Unified Energy Interface stack built on Beckn, which underpins UBC, Kazam’s role has been to translate open-network principles into production-grade systems that can operate reliably across fleets, depots, cities, and national-scale charging networks.

Our partnership in the initiative reflects a deliberate conviction that the charging network India needs must be built on open architecture, common protocols, interoperable platforms and settlement infrastructure that works at national scale.”

Happy to coordinate for any additional insights or a deeper conversation on EV charging interoperability, open-network infrastructure, and what this means for India’s EV ecosystem going forward.
