Kokrajhar-Desh Bhakti Divas observed

Kokrajhar: Desh Bhakti Divas was observed in Kokrajhar to commemorate the death anniversary of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan with various programmes today.

District Information and Public Relations Office, Kokrajhar in association with Kokrajhar Press Club observed the Deshbhakti Divas at the conference hall of office of the Regional Officer cum Council Head of Information and Public Relations department, BTC, Kokrajhar.

As part of the programme, floral tribute was paid at the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan followed by plantation at the office premises.

BTC Secretary and principal secretary (incharge) Naren Chandra Basumatary, Sahitya Akademi awardee and Bodoland University Registrar Dr Indira Boro grace the occasion as guests.

A memorial lecture on the life and contribution of Tarun Ram Phukan to the freedom movement of India was also held. 

In her speech, Dr Indira Boro recalled the vast contributions of Phukan during the freedom movement of India. She said that Phukan was not only a freedom fighter but also a good statesman and a source of inspiration. Since his contributions were not known to the present generation, the government took the initiative to observe his death anniversary as Desh Bhakti Divas and this step was praiseworthy, she said.

Regional officer cum CHD, IPR, BTC Ansuma Mohilary, DIPRO Kokrajhar Gagan Narzary, BTC PRO Sameswar Basumatary, members of Kokrajhar Press Club were among those present on the occasion.

The Kokrajhar District administration also observed the Deshbhakti Divas at the DC office premises on Thursday. Kokrajhar DC Varnali Deka and other officials and staff of the district administration paid homage at the portrait of Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on the occasion.
