Chennai: The Madras High Court has scrapped tenders worth 2650 crore rupees in Tamil Nadu for violation of norms.

The state rural development department is said to have floated the tenders for the development of rural roads in the state.

The funding is being made by the Centre as per the 14th Finance Commission recommendations. A batch of petitions was filed against the tenders saying they should have been approved by the village panchayats concerned.

After hearing both the sides, the court held that floating of tenders for rural road works directly by the government bypassing the village panchayats is against the laid out procedures
