Bengaluru : ManipalCigna Health Insurance, one of India’s leading health insurers and one of the lead health insurers in Karnataka under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India’s (IRDAI) State Insurance Plan, is encouraging individuals and families across the state to periodically assess their health insurance coverage and ensure it remains aligned with their evolving healthcare needs and financial goals.

As medical science advances and treatment options become more sophisticated, the cost of healthcare continues to evolve. Combined with the increasing prevalence of lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, this underscores the importance of reassessing health insurance coverage from time to time to ensure it remains aligned with current healthcare needs and treatment costs.

ManipalCigna emphasises that adequate protection goes beyond simply owning a policy. It means choosing a sum insured that reflects current treatment costs, reviewing cover as family needs change, ensuring ageing parents are protected, and understanding key policy terms such as waiting periods, sub-limits and co-payments. Options such as top-up and super top-up plans can help families enhance their coverage cost-effectively, and with individual health insurance premiums exempt from GST, this is an opportune time to strengthen protection.

Commenting on the importance of health insurance awareness, Sapna Desai, Chief Marketing Officer, ManipalCigna Health Insurance, said, “Healthcare needs and treatment costs continue to evolve over time and many families still appear to rely on health insurance cover purchased years ago. The gap between coverage and actual treatment costs often becomes apparent during a medical emergency, when the financial burden can be significant. Our Health India Quotient (IHQ) 2026 study found that people with health insurance reported a higher overall wellbeing score of 68 out of 100, compared with 62 among those without it. The study also highlighted that South India recorded an overall health index score of 63 and a financial health score of 59, underscoring the need for stronger financial preparedness and protection against medical expenses. As Karnataka’s lead health insurer under the State Insurance Plan, we want to encourage families to view health insurance as an ongoing financial safeguard rather than a one-time purchase. Reviewing coverage regularly and choosing an adequate sum insured can help protect both their health and their savings.”

As part of its role under the State Insurance Plan, ManipalCigna Health Insurance continues to drive health insurance awareness across Karnataka, in support of with IRDAI’s ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ initiative.
