Manipur based poacher held with arms and ammunition near Orang NP in Assam’s Darrang district

Mangaldai : The Darrang Police in a significant achievement in their ongoing counter poaching operation  has nabbed a hardcore  poacher hailing from Manipur andrecovered a.303 rifle and several rounds of ammunition from his possession. Acting on a tip off, a team of police of Silbori Police

Out Post under Dalgaon Police Station on Monday midnight  laid an ambush at village Bejimari  along the  river Dhansiri adjacent to Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve  , the ambush party challenged a group of three poachers in which the poacher was nabbed, said police . The arrested poacher has been identified as Sola Guite (30) son of Khaia Guite of village New Lamkha under Jhehanglamka Police Station of Churachandpur district in Manipur. However, two other poachers managed to escape from the spot under the cover of darkness. A bag full of clothes, medicines and supplies was also recovered from him. During preliminary interrogation by police  it has reportedly come to light that he is a very notorious poacher and has killed rhinos earlier in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) as well and few days back he had made a futile attempt to kill a rhino in Agaratali range of KNP.
