In Sri Lanka, the martyr’s day in remembrance of death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is being observed.
The Consulate General of India in Jaffna observed the day with the garlanding of Mahatma Gandhiji’s statue, one minute silence and singing of his favourite bhajan Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram.
All Ceylon Gandhi Sewa Sangam jointly organised the function. Several dignitaries including chairman of northern province C. V. K. Sivagnanam and Jaffna Mayor Arnold were present on the occasion.
Gandhi Community Centre in Ariyalai organized another function where Consul General Balachandran paid homage to Gandhiji and addressed the school children present at the function.
Indian cultural centre in Colombo is organizing a cultural programme ‘Remembering the Mahatma’ this evening to pay tribute to the father of Nation.
