Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals and Sightsavers India Strengthen Community Eye Care Access Across India

0 3

Mumbai : Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals partnered with Sightsavers India to make a significant impact on community-level eye care, with the initiative successfully completed in May 2026. The collaboration reached underserved populations in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam, providing essential eye care services. The initiative screened 26,826 individuals for eye-related concerns, identified 3,756 people with cataracts and referred them for further care, and provided 3,256 individuals with spectacles following screening. Additionally, 1,056 individuals were screened for diabetic retinopathy (DR).

These efforts focused on vulnerable groups, including truck drivers, daily wage earners, senior citizens, and low-income families, who often face barriers to accessing quality eye care.  As urbanisation continues to accelerate, many individuals still struggle to access basic healthcare services like eye care. This collaboration sought to break down these barriers by encouraging early intervention and raising awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups.

A spokesperson from Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals said, “Good eye health should never be a privilege – our mission is to ensure that communities with limited access to care receive the attention they deserve. By bringing preventive eye care directly to people who may not have access to regular screenings, we’re able to identify cataracts, refractive errors, and other issues early, offering timely intervention to prevent more serious vision problems down the line.”

RN Mohanty, CEO of Sightsavers India added, “As India’s urban population grows, ensuring equitable access to eye care for low-income residents is critical. Through Sightsavers India’s Urban Eye Health Programme, we are driving awareness, promoting regular screening, and enabling early intervention to prevent avoidable vision loss. Our partnership with Maxivision has helped us expand the reach of these efforts. Partnerships such as this are vital not only to expand outreach, but also to build stronger referral networks and more responsive urban eye health systems for the future.” This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both organisations to bring affordable, accessible, and high-quality eye care to underserved communities across India – ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to protecting their vision.
