MoS for Textiles and Railway Darshana Vikram Jardosh visits Kokrajhar, Udalguri

Kokrajhar : Minister of state for Textiles and Railway Darshana Vikram Jardosh, today visited Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) headquarter Kokrajhar and Udalguri district and participated in several programmes.

The minister first visited Vanya silk’s cocoon market at Sapkaithy in Udalguri. She also interacted with artisans. BTR chief executive member Pramod Boro and executive member Nilut Swargiary accompanied the Union minister of state.

Later the minister visited Kokrajhar and laid the foundation stone of the Apparel and Garment unit under Soil to Silk Project, North Eastern Region Textile Promotion scheme (NERTPS) at Bodoland Silk situated at Adabari in Kokrajhar.

Later she participated in an interaction with local weavers and members of Self Help Groups of Chirang and Kokrajhar at BTC Secretariat conference hall.

Talking to Reporters, the minister said the handloom and textiles sector is a key sector that will help in building an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India. She said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the  mantra of sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas and sabka Sankalp, the Central Government is focusing on equal development of North East. She said Assam has the highest number of registered self help groups and women are engaged in the sector. She said the Apparel and Garment unit will serve towards generating better employment in the region and will aid economic growth and facilitate production of local silks, handloom and handicraft products. She ensures all possible help for all round development and growth of handloom and textiles in BTR.

She also visited Kachugaon and met the local weavers at Rabhapara.

BTC Executive member for Handloom and Textile Dhananjay Basumatary, executive member for Sericulture Daobaisa Boro, Arup Kumar Dey were also present.
