Moscow is facilitating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology across Russian regions, with the city’s AI systems having already processed over 16 million medical studies.
“In recent years, we have placed great emphasis on the development of AI technologies in Moscow’s healthcare system and have achieved significant results. We are now actively scaling this experience nationwide. In 2024, on the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, we opened access to MosMedAI for the regions. This unique platform aggregates various computer vision services for medical image analysis, all of which have undergone rigorous, multi-stage testing and demonstrated their efficacy within Moscow’s healthcare network,” the Moscow Mayor stated.
AI algorithms identify areas of potential pathology, perform required measurements, and provide additional diagnostic information. Rather than replacing physicians, they serve as a supportive tool that helps detect diseases at earlier stages. Currently, In Moscow, these algorithms can simultaneously identify up to 14 pathologies on a single medical image.
To date, over 2,000 medical organizations across 75 Russian regions are connected to the MosMedAI platform. They have access to 18 AI services for the analysis of mammograms, fluorograms, chest X-rays, and CT scans of the brain and thoracic organs
The capabilities of AI continue to expand. Since April, the system has also been able to detect signs of scoliosis on spinal X-rays. In total, specialists at the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine have already tested 70 AI services.
