Dimapur : The present installed electricity generation capacity of Nagaland from small hydro project stands at 26.74MW.
Principal secretary, power, KD Vizo said this while speaking at the inauguration of upgradation of 132/66/33 KV sub-station at Nagarjan here to 2×100MVA power sub-station.
Adviser to power H. Tovihoto Ayemi inaugurated the upgraded power sub-station, which caters to entire Dimapur and Peren district, on Wednesday evening.
Vizo said the bulk of state’s power requirement is being purchased from the central PSU generating units operating in the north eastern region and the eastern region. However, due to shortfall of hydro power generation in the eastern region the department is rationing the supply of electricity throughout the state on a rational basis.
“There is now tremendous pressure to have our own hydro power generation stations,” he stated. He appealed to the public to extend cooperation in places where hydro power stations are coming up.
Vizo said domestic power consumption in the state constitutes about 85 percent of the total electricity consumption in the state.
He said the trend over the last 10 years has shown an increase of 7-10 percent in the normal electricity demand annually. He added that by the year 2021, the power demand of 200MW is expected from industrial initiatives in the state, increasing it to 450MW in the next year.
In his address, Ayemi said the construction of the new 2×100MVA sub-station is yet another remarkable achievement of the power department. He thanked the engineers and all the people for their support to enable the government to fulfil the vision of providing uninterrupted power supply all over the state. He hoped that the socio economic condition of the people will improve with the upgradation of the power sub-station.
In his technical report, engineer in-chief, power, Shikari Sema said only one 100MVA, 132/66KV transformer could be installed in the state in March 2015 with the Rs 17.05 crore provided by the DoNER ministry. He added that to mitigate the power crisis, the state government sanctioned Rs 14.96 crore from the state’s resources and the installation of 100MVA, 132/33kv transformer was completed with the amount.
