New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu and the District Collector of Thoothukudi regarding the assault of a Class XI student. The Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report stating that the student, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste, was attacked by a group of upper-caste boys while travelling on a bus to appear for his exam. In response to the incident, the NHRC has sought a detailed report from the DGP and the District Collector of Thoothukudi, directing them to submit their findings within four weeks.
