No community spread of Covid19 in Tamil Nadu, says CM Edappadi Palaniswamy

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has again reiterated that there is no community spread of Covid19 in the state. He inaugurated a modern Covid-19 hospital at Guindy, Chennai last evening. Later, talking to reporters, he said the intensity of the pandemic is coming down gradually.

Meanwhile, the total Covid-19 infection in Tamil Nadu is nearing one lakh eighteen thousand cases with 3616 people confirmed positive yesterday. The new cases include 1203 cases in Chennai. 4545 people were discharged after recovery leaving the active caseload at nearly 46-thousand. 65 people died of the disease taking the toll to 1636. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has said the fever camps being held in Chennai has so far helped to identify over ten thousand Covid-19 patients who have been isolated.

While responding to a query on the surge in new cases outside Chennai in the state, he remarked that the overall pandemic situation is well under control. He said the government has to take a balanced view between the livelihood resources of the people and continuing the lockdown. He said there is a limit to the length of the lockdown beyond which it may not be sustainable, justifying the decision to take Chennai out of the complete lockdown.
