Noted journalist and litterateur Homen Borgohain passed away at the age of 88

GUWAHATI : Noted journalist and noted Assamese litterateur Homen Borgohen breathed his last at a private hospital here on Wednesday morning. He was 88 years old. The Sahitya Akademi Award winner was admitted to the hospital after falling into the house. Doctors attributed the death to cardiac arrest. A former Chairman of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, Mr Borgohen, had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 24. He was discharged from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital after a negative test on May 7.

 His work includes 11 novels and four non-stories. He won the Sahitya Akademi in 1978 for his Yellow Son novel but returned the award in 2015 for opposing growing intolerance in India. The late writer was working till his death as editor-in-chief of assamese daily Neomia Dialogue of Assamese daily. He also worked as assam civil service officer for some time.He was born on December 7, 1932 at Dhakukhana in Lakhimpur district. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of noted litterateur and veteran journalist Heman Borgohin. The last rites of veteran journalist and noted litterateur Homan Borgohen will be performed with full national honours. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that state education minister Ranuj Pegu has been tasked with overseeing the funeral arrangements of Homen Borgohen. “It has been decided that the funeral of Homan Borgohen will be performed with full national honours. Meanwhile, Noted journalist and noted Assamese litterateur Homen Borgohain breathed his last at a private hospital here on Wednesday morning. He was 88 years old. Chief Advisor to Journalists Association of Assam and National Union of Journalists India, NUJI National Vice President Bhupen Goswami and, Journalists Association of Assam, President Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty, Working President Anup Biswas, General Secretary Dalim Phukan, Vice President Sandeep Sarma, Mayukh Goswami, Secretary Sudip Sharma Chaudhory have condoled the dearh of Homen Borgohain.

We are all journalists deeply pained to hear about the demise of eminent litterateur, a stalwart & veteran journalist Homen Borgohain who poured in massive contributions towards constructive positivity in various aspects of social life of Assam,” said JAA and NUJI in the statement. It is a great lost in Assam and all over Indian journalism.
