Only 55% of Indian Homes Are EV-Ready. Kazam’s ‘EV-Ready Ghar’ Campaign Puts Home Charging in the Spotlight
As India’s EV adoption continues to accelerate, home charging is becoming the backbone of the ownership experience, with nearly 80% of EV charging taking place at home. Drawing on insights from over 80,000 residential EV charger installations across India, a recent study by EV charging and energy management company Kazam and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) found that nearly half of Indian homes require electrical upgrades or corrective interventions to support safe EV charging. The findings highlight a critical but often overlooked aspect of EV adoption: for consumers to confidently switch to EVs, they need access to safe and reliable charging right at home.
Building on these findings, Kazam has launched ‘EV-Ready Ghar’, a consumer awareness campaign designed to help EV buyers understand what makes a home ready for safe charging. The campaign extends the research beyond policymakers and industry stakeholders, translating its findings into practical tools and consumer-friendly storytelling.
At the centre of the campaign is Kazam’s EV Home Readiness Quiz, a simple digital assessment that enables consumers to evaluate whether their homes are prepared for safe EV charging. Where required, users can also schedule a professional home charging assessment by trained technicians called Kazam Rangers.
To make the conversation more accessible, Kazam put out an audition for real EV users to feature in the official music video. Rather than focusing on the vehicle itself, the anthem shifts attention to the home, encouraging prospective EV buyers to think about safe charging practices, such as not relying on the regular home socket for sustained overnight charging.
The campaign also draws on familiar cultural symbols to communicate electrical safety. Kazam has reimagined the traditional Nimbu Mirchi as a symbol of an EV-ready home, using it across campaign communication to reinforce the idea that preparing a home’s electrical infrastructure is as important as protecting any other valuable investment.
“Home charging is where the EV experience truly begins, yet it’s often the least understood part of owning an electric vehicle. Through ‘EV-Ready Ghar’, we wanted to make conversations around safe home charging simple, relatable and easy to act on. The campaign combines music with practical tools like the EV Home Readiness Quiz to help consumers understand whether their homes are truly EV-ready and what steps they can take to charge safely. As India moves towards a future of 50 million EVs, building confidence in home charging will be critical to accelerating adoption. Because before India becomes EV-ready, India’s homes must become EV-ready,” said Vani Vivek, AVP-Marketing, Kazam.
Through ‘EV-Ready Ghar’, Kazam aims to empower consumers with the knowledge and tools to assess their home’s charging readiness and make informed decisions about charging safely.
