Over 1,213 crore electoral bonds purchased in current year

New Delhi: The Government  has said total 1,213 crore 26 lakh one thousand rupees electoral bonds were purchased in the current year till date.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said out of this 1212 crore 86 lakh rupees electoral bonds are enchased. He said the Electoral Bond Scheme is, in fact, an unprecedented step towards cleansing the process of funding of political parties and major improvement over conventional practice of funding the political system through donations in cash.

The Minister said the purchaser is allowed to buy electoral bonds only on due fulfillment of all the extant instructions regarding KYC norms issued by the Reserve Bank of India and by making payment from a bank account.

He said all payments for the issuance of the bond are accepted only in Indian rupees, though demand draft or cheque or through Electronic Clearing System.
