Mangaldai :: In view of the large scale Covid deaths due to undiagnosed oxygen saturation and temperature for timely medical attention during the Covid second wave, ‘SATRA’ , a Sipajhar based leading NGO in Darrang with support from another leading NGO of the country ” Breath for India ” and collaboration with other NGOs namely ” Farm 2 Food” , ” Way Foundation ” and ” Youth Invole Fellowship ” has come forward to provide grassroot community level health and social workers of Darrang and Udalguri district each with a oxymeter and a thermometer in addition to a bundle face masks. The distribution process of this Covid fighting kit for 1100 such targeted beneficiaries has ceremonially been launched through a simple function organised abiding Covid norms in the office campus of “SATRA” , at Satgharia village, Sipajhar on July 29. Debojyoti Gogoi, Circle Officer, Sipajhar launched it by handing over a kit each to thirty selected beneficiaries including local ASHA health workers in presence of Nani Saikia, MD, “SATRA” , local leading citizens Dr Prasanna Kr Nath and Rajani Kanta Nath respectively.

Meanwhile talking to this correspondent, Nani Saikia said , ” We hope there will be no more deaths due to lack of awareness and diagnosis of decrease in oxygen level and for want of oxygen. This is a part of our efforts to involve and aware grassroot community level workers. We already supplied oxygen concentrators to the government hospitals of our intervening two districts.” It may well be mentioned here that so far Covid has claimed 146 lives in Darrang district including 101 in its second wave .
