Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez to Embark on Official Five-Day Visit to India Starting July 19
New Delhi: In a significant step towards deepening bilateral ties, the Foreign Minister of Panama, Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, will undertake an official five-day visit to India beginning tomorrow, July 19, 2026. This high-level engagement underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, which share historical connections dating back to the 19th century when Indian workers contributed to the construction of the Panama Railway and the iconic Panama Canal.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are keen to expand cooperation across trade, investment, shipping, logistics, technology, pharmaceuticals, and green energy. India’s exports to Panama include vehicles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, machinery, and engineering goods, while imports primarily consist of wood products, iron and steel, and other commodities. The same day, the Panamanian Foreign Minister will also call on External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House. On Wednesday, Minister Vasquez is slated to meet with Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. Given Panama’s expertise in canal operations and maritime logistics, and India’s ambitions in green shipping and port modernization, this meeting holds immense potential. Topics likely to feature include green hydrogen collaboration for sustainable shipping, joint ventures in port infrastructure, and leveraging the Panama Canal for efficient India-Latin America trade routes.
