Police officer has arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption for demanding money

GUWAHATI : A complaint was received at this Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assamalleging that ASI Dambarudhar Dutta ofSilonibari Outpost,Dist- North Lakhimpur, Assam haddemanded Rs. 4,000/- as bribe from the complainant forfacilitating bail of complainant’s family members and giving relief to complainant’s younger brother in a criminal case.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid today, on 11/10/2022by a team fromthe Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam at Panigaon daily market (where the ASI had asked the complainant to hand over the money) and ASI Dambarudhar Duttawas caught red handed at 3.05PM with the accepted bribe of Rs.4,000/- (four thousand only) after he took it from the complainant. The tainted bribe was immediately recovered from the possession of ASI Dambarudhar Dutta and seizedin presence of independent witnesses. A case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 11/10/2022vide ACB P.S. Case No. 47/2022U/S 7(a)of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) in this connection. Necessary legal follow up actions are underway.
