Police recovers a huge cache of explosives and weapons in Kokrajhar

GUWAHATI : In a drive, the police team has recovered automatic arms and ammunition from a dense forest near Ballamjhora of Mahamaya Reserve Forest and Kalbagan, number four part of Guma Reserve Forest under Tipkai Sub-Police Station of Kokrajhar district. The police administration is presently conducting a drive against illegal arms in the four districts of BTC namely Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Baksa and Chirang. Addressing a press conference at the meeting house of The Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police on Tuesday, Special ADGP and BTAD IGP L R Bishnoi said that a huge quantity of arms packed in plastic under the ground have been recovered in a dense forest near Ballamjhora and Guma Reserve Forest Number 4 Part Of Kalbagan of Mahamaya Reserve Forest.He said the weapons recovered include two Israeli-made rifles, four magazines, a silencer, 16 grenades, 22 pressure bombs and 22 pressure bombs. He has predicted that the recovered weapons belong to the surrendered outfit NDFB. The press conference was attended by Special ADGP and BTAD IGP L R Bishnoi, Kokrajhar District Superintendent of Police Prateek Vijay Kumar Thuwe, Deputy Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panesar Singh, Poonam Pegu. A police official said, the operation is being carried out under the leadership of Kokrajhar District Superintendent of Police Prateek Vijay Kumar Thuwe.

No one has been arrested in this regard. The police are investigating the case.On the other hand, Assam’s South Salmara District Executive Magistrate Bibhas Medhi has claimed that the officer-in-charge of The Satgaon police station in Guwahati has “slapped” him in a horrific incident. The magistrate was slapped by the police, so now the administration has deferred about the complaint of the incident. In his complaint, he said that the OC of Satgaon police station slapped him when he was on his way to the police station to register a case against some land brokers. Bibhas Medhi claimed that instead of filing a complaint, Pronjit Lahkar, OC of Guwahati’s Satgaon police station, had an altercation with him and “slapped” him. Meanwhile, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The probe will be headed by Guwahati Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nilotpal Deka and a senior civil services officer. The investigation team has been given three days to submit its findings before the Guwahati Police Commissioner for further action.
