Poshan Maah, Matru Vandana Saptha begin in Chirang

Kajalgaon: The Poshan Maah- 2021 and Matru Vandana Saptha-2021 celebration under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana with the theme “Surak Janani Viksit Dharani” were ceremonialy inaugurated in Chirang district on Wednesday.

The programme organised by the Chirang District Social Welfare department was inaugurated by Jayanta Basumatary, MLA of Sidli constituency by lighting a lamp at the conference hall of the district center at Kajalgaon. While the exhibition of nutritious food was ceremonialy opened by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah. 

MLA Jayanta Basumtary, who was present as the special guest at the inaugural function of Poshan Maah and Matru Bandan Saptha, conducted by Shyameswar Mushahary, District Social Welfare Officer, said that mothers having nutritious food during their pregnancy time, all the children born to them to be mentally healthy. So, he appealed to the pregnant women along with lactating mothers to eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and protein foods as well as asked the departmental officials of social welfare and health departments to give them proper guidance.

Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah in his speech asked all the Anganwadi Workers to be very active by visiting regularly all pregnant and lactating women under their jurisdiction in order to provide them any help under this maternity programme. He hoped that with the efficient implementation of the project all beneficiaries of the district would be benifited.

Dr. Ratul Chandra Bordoloi, Joint Director of Health Services, Chirang, also spoke on the topic of nutrition and baby food for pregnant women.

“As part of the celebration, a host of activities, including awareness programme,  demonstration on nutritious foods, breast feeding for pregnant and lactating women, rallies, etc are being undertaken”, District Social Welfare Officer Shyameswar Mushahary said.

The event was also attended by supervisors, angonwadi workers, assistants of social welfare department, pregnant women and lactating mothers of the district.
