Pramod Boro to take oath as BTC chief today

Kokrajhar : The United People’s Party-Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gana Suruksha Party (GSP) coalition led by Pramod Boro is set to take charge of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration on Tuesday. The swearing-in of Pramod Boro as chief of Bodoland Territorial Council along with other members will be held tomorrow at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.

Hectic preparation is on for the grand ceremony where one lakh people are expected to attend the function.

The oath of office and secrecy will be administered by Chief Secretary, Assam Jishnu Barua.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowwal, NEDA convenor and Assam Finance, Health, PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam State BJP president Ranjit Das, Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma will attend the swearing in ceremony, confirmed BTC Principal Secretary Siddhart Singh.

The results of the 40-member BTC elections held on December 7 and 10, declared on Saturday, led to a hung house. The ruling BPF emerged as the single largest party winning 17 seats, the UPPL – 12, BJP – 9, the GSP and the Congress bagged one seat each. The UPPL 12 and BJP nine seats making magic number 21 required to rule the Council have joined hand and claimed to form the Council. The Gana Suraksha Party GSP which is led by MP Naba Kumar Sarania which bagged 1 seat has extended support, giving the new coalition an edge.

BPF, Cong members likely to join or support the coalition govt

Former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Biswajit Daimary said 4-6 members are already in touch to support the coalition government in BTC. At least 4-6 newly elected from the BPF have contacted us (BJP). They might be joining us soon, Daimary said.

He also said the lone Congress member from Srirampur constituency Sajal Kumar Singha has already confirmed of supporting the ruling coalition unconditionally.

Pramod Boro for tough action against corruption

Student leader turned politician Pramod Boro who will take oath as the chief executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) said the new Council will act tough on corruption and work for good governance. 

Talking to Reporters in Kokrajhar today where he was accorded a rousing welcome by the people “We want to take the government among the people. There was a huge gap in between the public and the government in the Council presently. We want to build a strong relationship between the government, administration and take forward development talking to all sections of people, irrespective of caste, creed and community for good governance, he said.

“Paribartan(change) is here and this paribatan is for the people and the people should think for a change.  I appeal to all the officials, employees if anyone is involved in corruption to change for good cause work for the people and deliver their service for the welfare of the public. We will take strong steps against corruption and there will be no compromise on corruption. Corruption is our main enemy and we are here to fight it, Boro said.
