Prominent young artiste and lawyer became new chairman of Mangaldai Municipality

 MANGALDAI :: Nirmali Devi Sharma has been chosen as the new chairperson of the 65 years old historic Mangaldai Municipal Board on April 18. Nirmali, an unmarried law graduate and a prominent actor was elected to the civic body from ward no 1 of the Darrang district headquarters town. She would be the 21st chairperson of the civic body. The post of chairperson to the municipality was reserved for woman this time.

The decision of selection of chairperson came from the State BJP in a closed envelope which has been made opened in front of all the newly elected civic body members of the party in a function held in presence of the senior party leaders including Amarendra Sarma, president, District BJP, Darrang, Ashok Sarma, former MLA, Nalbari, Dr Juri Sarma Bordoloi, assistant prabhari of the district and Gurujyoti Das, former MLA, Mangaldai at the party office here . Informing District BJP President Amarendra Sarma said that the selection came from a report earlier submitted by a special team led by Ashok Sarma who had taken personal opinion from all the newly elected party members to the civic bodies. Achyut Das , the elected member for ward no 4 , Mangaldai has been chosen as the deputy ( vice chairman) of Nirmali. Similarly in Sipajhar Municipality Board where the post of chairperson is also reserved, Pinakshi Sarma has been selected as the new chairperson while Abhinav Hazarika will be her deputy. On the otherhand hand in Kharupetia Krishna Saha , a former chairperson of the civic body has been given the opportunity once again though the post was unreserved this time. Ashim Saha will be the vice chairman in the urban local body . They all will be taking their oaths on April 20 ..
