GUWAHATI :In Assam, opposition MLAs staged a walkout on monday on the first day of the budget session to protest against high prices of goods. Opposition MLAs protested against the Modi-led central government and the BJP government in the state over high prices of goods. Opposition MLAs demanded a discussion on high prices of goods in Assam including fuel, which was rejected by Speaker Biswajit Daimari. Opposition MLAs led by Congress and AIUDF staged a walkout to protest against their rejection of their demand. The first budget session of the 15th Assam Assembly began on Monday, which will continue till August 13 with 15 working days.
The Assam government is likely to introduce a total of 14 Bills including the Assam Animal Protection Bill, 2021 in the Budget Session. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently said that the role of an MLA is limited to making laws while it is the duty of ministers to implement them. Sarma had said that as long as he is the Chief Minister of Assam, all government officials including DC and SP will listen to the ministers and not the MLAs. Shivsagar assembly constituency MLA Akhil Gogoi appeared aggressive on the first day of assam assembly. The Opposition had moved a adjournment motion in the meeting on price rise. Akhil Gogoi strongly criticised the government in the media after leaving the House. Inflation in food items is endangering the common man, says Akhil Gogoi.
Corona, lockdown have affected manufacturing, reproduction, business. The price hike across the country has caused a stir to the general public. Therefore, opposition MLAs moved a adjournment motion in the House today. But the Speaker rejected the proposal. In Assam, inflation is the biggest problem today. Unless it is discussed, what will be the discussion in the House? Akhil Gogoi further said, “The Chief Minister said that if the meeting is moved on a adjournment motion, the government does not consider it an honour. If there is a public employee, the Government will be there for discussion. But the Government did not allow the unfortunate thing to happen. He asked the principal not to allow for any reason. Now, we are strongly opposing it. Even at that time, the Chairman had announced the suspension of the meeting. But the meeting is still going on. The programme is going completely out of the rules of principle. If Assam does not allow inflation to be talked about in the Assembly, there can be no bigger dark chapter.
