Senior journalist of Assam’s Udalguri district awarded in new year

Mangaldai: A meet of the journalists,  literary activists and local leading citizens of erstwhile Darrang district held on Friday at Bhuyakhat in present Bhergaon Sub Division has discussed several relevant issues related to present trend of media , potentiality and challenges of the rural journalism among others . Several speakers including President of Udalguri Press Club Gautamjyoti Talukdar, journalists Dhiren Mahalia and Kaneswar Deka spoke on the topic ” Recent trend of journalism, problems of rural journalists ” and mooted for necessary measures from the authorities concern to safeguard the life and livelihood of the rural journalists.

The meet organized jointly by Media Circle, Tangla and Bhuyakhat Sahitya Sabha also featured Syed Jisar Jafri memorial award  to Bapon Sarma, a local senior journalist of Dainik Asom as well as an accomplished artiste of folk culture Ojapali by Tangla Media Circle in recognition of his completion of  thirty year long service in the field of journalism. The award carries a citation,  traditional japi,  xarai, gamosa and cash prize of Rs 15,000 . The function was attended by many prominent local persons including Panery Legislator Kamli Basumatary, President of Bhuyakhat Sahitya Sabha Dhiren Sarma, its Secretary Mukunda Deka, SDO (Civil) Bhergaon Sub Division Gakul Ch Brahma , Organizing Secretary of Asom Sahitya Sabha Kamaleswar Sarma,  Secretary of Udalguri Zila Sahitya Sabha Dr Pabitra Sarma, writer Parachute Ram Baruah, Joint Secretary of All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students Union Dibyajyoti Kumar Deka and social activist Manmohan Boro among others. Earlier on the day the Dhiren Sarma hoisted the flag of Bhuyakhat Sahitya Sabha while ‘smriti tarpan’ programme was initiated by Naba Kumar Deka,  General Secretary of All BTC Journalists Association.
