Sensex Drops 523 Points, Closes Below 71,100; Nifty Settles at 21,616 Mark

Mumbai: The Key domestic indices ended more than half a percent up amid mixed cues from the global share markets. The BSE Sensex rose 483 points, or 0.68 percent, to close at 71,555. The NSE Nifty gained 127 points, or 0.59 percent, to settle at 21,743.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index gained 0.61 percent while the Small-cap index rose 0.18 percent.

In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 25 companies appreciated while those of five companies declined. ICICI Bank gained 2.46 percent and Axis Bank rose 2.3 percent. Wipro advanced 2.14 percent and NTPC added 1.85 percent.

On the other hand, Ultra Tech Cement fell 1.03 percent, Mahindra & Mahindra lost 0.85 percent and Titan slipped 0.69 percent.

In sectoral indices at the BSE, 17 sector registered gains, while three witnessed losses.

Services and Bankex, both sectors gained above 1.4 percent. Financial Service rose 1.23 percent and Energy sector added one percent.

On the other side, Metal declined 1.44 percent, Commodities fell 0.94 percent and Realty inched down 0.01 percent.

The overall Market breadth was negative, as the shares of 1,685 companies appreciated while those of 2,172 declined. A total of 85 companies remained unchanged.
