Mumbai: The key domestic stock indices today climbed more than half a percent in the afternoon trade. The Sensex and the Nifty, both gained amid positive global cues. The Sensex was trading above 59,400 points while the Nifty was trading above 17,700 level.
The Sensex rose 419 points, or 0.71 per cent, to trade at 59,448. The Nifty was also up 104 points, or 0.59 per cent, to trade at 17,729 when the reports last came in.
In the forex market, the rupee appreciated 19 paise to trade at 79 rupees and 71 pasie against the US dollar in the afternoon deals.
