Vijayapura, Karnataka : Shri Dr. M. B. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, today dedicated the beautified community infrastructure at the historic Mamadapur Lake in Babaleshwar taluk of Vijayapura district.

The initiative has been undertaken in partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) under its flagship community partnership programme, Project SHINE, in collaboration with implementation partner S M Sehgal Foundation. The handover ceremony was attended by local government officials, representatives of the Gram Panchayat, community leaders, members of the Tank User Group (TUG), and senior representatives from HCCB.

Mamadapur Lake, constructed during the reign of the Adil Shahi Sultans in the 16th century, is among Karnataka’s largest and oldest living heritage water bodies. For centuries, the lake has served as an important natural resource supporting local communities and agriculture in the region. The initiative seeks to strengthen the lake’s role as a shared community asset while preserving its historical and environmental significance.

As part of the lake beautification initiative, several improvements have been undertaken to enhance public infrastructure, safety, and accessibility around the water body. These include the development of a public park, creation of dedicated walking pathways, installation of high-mast solar lighting, designated access points, and community seating areas. Native saplings supported by drip irrigation have also been planted to enhance green cover and support the local ecosystem. In addition, awareness and capacity-building engagements were conducted with members of the Tank User Group to encourage community participation in the upkeep and long-term sustainability of the lake and associated infrastructure.

Commenting on the initiative, Shri Dr. M. B. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce & Industries and Infrastructure, Government of Karnataka (GoK) said, “Karnataka remains committed to strengthening water resilience through the protection of local water bodies and community‑led stewardship.
